Police officials announced that they are partnering with Nextdoor, after using it during a several month trial period to “collaborate with neighbors to address safety concerns and respond to quality-of-life issues.”
Officials said that Nextdoor enables the Yonkers Police Department to work directly with neighbors to increase safety and strengthen virtual neighborhood watch. In fact, according to a recent Nextdoor poll, 81 percent of Yonkers residents on Nextdoor feel more informed about crime and safety issues in their communities.
According to the police department, “with Nextdoor, Yonkers residents can create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The Yonkers
Police Department will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, free events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor neighborhoods within the city. There are 44 Yonkers neighborhoods connected on Nextdoor, and today the Police Department is encouraging more to sign-up.”
Nextdoor is free for residents and the Police Department. Each neighborhood in Yonkers also has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, which will only be accessible to residents of those neighborhoods.
